Hi all.

I am primarily a Maya user, but have an old copy of 3ds Max 9 from a few years back. I mainly model hard surface models, and was wondering if this plugin is any good for unwrapping them? UV's seem to be my no. 1 enemy :p

If this plugin does work for them, as shown on the demo on cgtalk, then I will be buying instantly

Thank you for your time.

Daniel Dye,
Coldside Digital.

P.S Will there ever be a Maya version?

:D Yes offcourse you can use it for hard surfaces in xrayunwrap we have 2 different methods for calcuate the unwrapping :

1 - Angle based is optimal for organics and smooth surfaces
2 - Conformal is best for hard surfaces

Hmm the issue it seems is that the uv's aren't all to scale. And how do you go about deciding what Seams should be chosen? How does it work with more complex hard surface models? Any chance of a tutorial showing and explaining the workflow for hard surface models? Especially something more complex which is generally the sort of work I do.

Thank you so much,

Daniel.

An example file can be downloaded here: http://www.freewebs.com/coldsidedigital/base.max. It would be awesome if you could make a recording showing you using XRayUnwrap on this model.

Thanks heaps,

Daniel.

Hi Daniel

Raffaele Grande our Lead Artist has unwrapped with xrayunwrap a part of your 3d model and this is the result, of course you can have this result for all models.
In the picture you can see the checkermap version and also the baked version i hope this can help.

Sorry but we've very short time to answer all the requests.

Ciao
Francesco

Oh that is awesome! Ordering now! Haha thanks for your help, I really appreciate it. But yes, in the future a tutorial on this sort of unwrapping would be awesome.
